Description

Vintage mid century dressing table, chest of drawers with mirror above, made by Meredrew in the early 1960s. The base has six drawers with light maple wood veneer on the fronts, and metal handles. The sides of the drawers are teak, making for handsome contrasting dovetail joints. A plate of glass sits over the top surface. There are tapered legs with adjustable brass feet underneath on a beech wood frame, and the mirror assembly above looks to be beech too, with a veneered back plate. Adjustable brackets for angling the mirror. Condition is pretty good structurally: it's solid and sound and the drawers work fine; one is slightly stiff but will improve in a centrally heated house. Cosmetically there are a few scuffs and scrapes though not a lot; the top surface needed its old varnish rubbing down; we haven't refinished it because the glass protects it well enough. Easy to do it if you like; it'll darken the colour somewhat though. The most significant flaw is the veneer at the edges of the mirror: it had begun to come away, so we've glued back what we could; there's a few chips missing which make for a less than perfect finish. It's not too terrible though, have a look at the photos. Dimensions: 168cm x 47cm x 143cm high (base height 75cm)
